A British counting game. Combinations of fifteens, pairs and runs score points on the classic pegboard.
Fifteens,
Pairs and Runs
Cribbage uses a characteristic pegboard for scoring. Players take turns playing cards and counting their running total – certain sub-totals earn immediate points.
After the playing phase, each hand is checked again for combinations: fifteens (sum 15), pairs, runs (sequences) and flushes earn additional points.
Before the
Game Begins
Fifteens are the most frequent source of points – always keep in mind the current total when playing cards.

What really
matters
When contributing to the Crib, discard cards that are of little value to you but don't help the dealer too much, if you are not the dealer yourself.
When playing cards, keep the running total carefully in mind – fifteens and 31 score immediate points that are easily overlooked.
Play cards in a way that actively builds a run if the opportunity arises – multi-card runs score disproportionately many points.
When scoring the hand, observe systematically – fifteens, pairs, runs, and flushes can overlap and all score simultaneously.
Missing a scoring opportunity when counting – with the Muggins rule, the opponent may then claim these points for themselves.
Carelessly choosing the Crib contribution without considering that the dealer will benefit additionally from it.
When playing, blindly playing a high card without considering the running total and possible fifteens.
Forgetting the start card when scoring the hand – it counts towards your own hand and the crib.
Cribbage is a British pub classic – playable anywhere with a normal deck.
